Our Purpose
The purpose of the South Texas Chapter of the American College of Surgeons Representative is to encourage young surgeons to develop leadership skills, to plan and arrange educational and social programs geared toward young surgeons, and to participate in policy-making process.
Our Goals
- Improve membership within the Chapter at the medical student,
resident, associate fellow, and young fellow levels
- Improve involvement within the Chapter at the medical student,
resident, associate fellow, and young fellow levels
- Improve participation of surgeons from all specialties
- Serve as a resource to medical students, residents, and young
fellows pursuing a career in surgery
- Encourage an esprit de corps among medical students, residents, and young fellows
- Encourage informative exchange between younger and more senior surgeons
- Decrease institutional and geographical barriers that foster isolation
Activities
Young Surgeons Forum (the day before the Chapter’s Annual Meeting)
Resident Surgical Jeopardy Bowl (during the Annual Meeting)
Attend the ACS Leadership Conference in the Spring in Washington DC (the Chapter provides two travel stipends per year to Young Surgeons)
